Product FAQ
Q:We have existing non-XL 3300 series 8 mm probes and cables. Can we use the new 3300 XL Proximitor sensor with them without any system recalibration or performance loss?
Q:Our application involves measuring radial vibration on a steam turbine. The probe mounting location is very tight, and an 8 mm probe body might not fit. Can we use a 5 mm probe with the 3300 XL 8 mm system?
Q:We need to monitor thrust position, and two probes will be mounted very close to each other axially. What is the minimum tip-to-tip spacing to avoid signal interference (cross-talk)?
A: Yes, the 3300 XL components are fully backward compatible and interchangeable with non-XL 3300 5 mm and 8 mm components. You can connect your existing probes and extension cables to a new 3300 XL Proximitor sensor. However, note that mixing XL and non-XL components limits the overall system performance to the specifications of the older non-XL 3300 system. For optimal performance (meeting API 670 specs, better interchangeability), it is recommended to use a complete 3300 XL system.
A: Yes, you can use a 3300-series 5 mm probe with the 3300 XL 8 mm Proximitor sensor and cables, as they are electrically compatible. However, critically, the 5 mm probe does not reduce the required side-view clearance or tip-to-tip spacing compared to an 8 mm probe; it only has a smaller diameter body. If your constraint is radial space (side view), you should consider the 3300 NSV (Narrow Side View) Proximity Transducer System.
A: For axial position measurements, you should maintain a minimum separation of at least 40 mm (1.6 in) between the tips of two separate transducer systems to limit cross-talk to 50 mV or less when each probe is gapped at the center of its linear range. For radial vibration measurements, the minimum spacing is 38 mm (1.5 in).
