The I/O can be extended if the motion consists of four motors and it is needed to have all detailed information available. Four motors can still be used without any Cabin I/O, but in that case it is needed to wire signals like "Brake closed" and "Over current trip" in serial; it is not possible to point out which motor that has caused the trip. Extended I/O is also used for fiber communication to a control desk, for switching between different operator stations and for signal concentration. Extended I/O is also needed for some advanced functions.
