The PLC 1785-V40V processor is one of the bulletin 1785 series enhanced PLC-5 processors that are designed for compatibility with the VMEbus computer bus standards. "VMEbus" stands for "Versa Module Europa bus" or "Versa Module Eurocard bus," which is a communication system that is used for transferring data between components inside a computer, as standardized by the IEC in ANSI/IEEE 1014-1987 standards. The main difference between it and the PLC 1785-V40V PLC-5 VME processor is that it does not need a standard PLC chassis but a VMEbus chassis, but otherwise this PLC-5 processor looks similar to other computer PCBs and it allows a computer system to have access to programmable logic controller functions in an industrial setting like other processors.
Like any other VMEbus computer processor, the PLC 1785-V40V PLC-5 VME processor can act as either a master or a slave unit. When configured as a master unit, it can access data in other VMEbus modules in the same network. On the other hand, when it is configured as a slave unit, it will allow the other VMEbus computers to access its data. This PLC 1785-V40V PLC-5 VME processor comes from the factory with a 48K word SRAM, a total of 1920 I/O, 1920 Analog I/O, 4 DH+/Remote I/O channel, and 1 RS-232C channel. The PLC-5 VME processors are easy to mount in a standard 6U (full-height) VMEbus chassis just by inserting them into 2 slots. Up to 8 PLC-5 VME can be installed in a single VME chassis. With the PLC 1785-V40V PLC-5 VME processor, the users will be able to combine the VMEbus flexibility with the precise and time-sensitive process control of a dedicated PLC-5 in their industrial processes.
